A-State Names Tom Risch Vice Provost, Head of Arkansas Biosciences Institute
Tom Risch

Tom Risch, Ph.D., has been named vice provost for research and technology transfer and executive director of the Arkansas Biosciences Institute at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Risch has served in an interim capacity in both areas this academic year.

The holder of the Judd Hill Endowed Chair of Environmental Biology, he previously served as chair of the Department of Biological Sciences.

Risch was also one of the university's leaders in the red wolf conservation projects coordinated with the Endangered Wolf Center in St. Louis and the Smithsonian Institution.

He earned his Ph.D. from Auburn University and joined A-State in 2001 after serving in a postdoctoral research position at Auburn. Risch was promoted to associate professor at A-State in 2006 and to professor in 2011.

He also served as director of the Environmental Sciences Graduate Program from 2009 to 2013.
