USA Truck Reports Another Profit

USA Truck Inc. of Van Buren reported first quarter 2019 revenue of $133.9 million Thursday.

The amount is an increase from $125 million in the same quarter of 2018. Income for the quarter was $1.5 million, up from $1.03 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Earnings per share for the quarter was 18 cents, up from 13 cents a year ago. The positive quarter was the company's seventh consecutive, something CEO James Reed mentioned in a statement with the company's filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.

"The first quarter of 2019 marks the 2nd consecutive first quarter of profitability and the most profitable first quarter since 2006," Reed said. "Add that to seven consecutive quarters of profitability, and our leadership team can drop the 'new' moniker —  this team continues to improve results quarter after quarter and year after year. The first quarter was important in the making of USA Truck's narrative about our ability to compete, our self-help story, and our position in the marketplace."

The trucking division reported revenue of $94.9 million, up from $78.8 million in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue per loaded truck mile was $2.24, up from $2.01 a year ago.

Total miles was also up, to 42.7 million from 38.5 million. USA Truck also reported 1,916 available tractors in the quarter, up from 1,619 a year ago.

The company's logistics division reported revenue of $41.5 million, down from $46.8 million in the same quarter a year ago. Reed said the logistics division had to compete with lower rates in the spot market, which affected revenue.
