The boards of directors of Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp. (AECC) and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. (AECI) said Thursday that they have named Vernon "Buddy" Hasten of Rogersville, Missouri, president and CEO.
Hasten, who has been vice president of engineering and construction for Associated Electric Cooperative in Springfield, Missouri, will begin work on Nov. 1.
Hasten replaces Bill Conine, who has been interim president and CEO since Duane Highley left the posts in April for a cooperative job in Colorado.
"I have had great respect for AECC and AECI over the years," Hasten said in a news release. "I am honored to serve as the president and CEO of these organizations that are dedicated to serving Arkansas electric cooperative members."
Hasten has held leadership posts in the military, investor-owned and electric cooperative sectors over his 30-year career. He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and earned certificates from the Harvard Business School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
During 20 years in U.S. Navy, he obtained a masters equivalent from Naval Nuclear Power School.
The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas provide electricity to about 500,000 homes, farms and businesses in Arkansas and surrounding states.
