CPA’s Snarky Comments Lead to LawsuitLock Icon

The $1.42 million purchase of a Little Rock accounting firm has turned into a headache for the new owner.

Mark Todd and his Todd & Associates CPAs of Little Rock are seeking a restraining order that would prevent Jeanetta Ann Dorsey and Dorco Enterprises LLC from allegedly taking the firm’s former clients or bad-mouthing him.

Todd and his company bought her Dorsey & Co. CPAs in September, and as part of the sale, Dorsey signed a noncompete and wasn’t supposed to attract her former clients, according to the lawsuit filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court.

But Todd alleged in his complaint that she did just that and “disparaged” him to clients in an attempt to win their business. Between Dec. 23 and Jan. 28, 13 clients canceled their service with Todd, according to the lawsuit.

“It is clear that [Dorsey and Dorco] will stop at nothing to destroy a business that was purchased from them less than a year ago,” Todd’s attorney, Timothy Giattina of the Little Rock firm Hodge Calhoun Giattina, said in the filing.

In addition to the restraining order, Todd is seeking unspecified damages for alleged violations of the purchase agreement.

A hearing for a temporary restraining order was set for Friday, which is after Whispers went to press.

Dorsey, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, could not be reached for comment.
