Grimes Takes Over ClifLock Icon

1 min read

Former Tyson Foods Inc. executive Sally Grimes is the new CEO at Clif Bar & Co. in Emeryville, California, effective today.

Emeryville is just southwest of Berkeley, where Gary Erickson founded Clif Bar & Co. in 1992.

Grimes joined Tyson after the Springdale company purchased Hillshire Brands Co. for $8.55 billion in 2014. Grimes was soon promoted to president of the North American retail division and later president of prepared food; she announced in February 2019 she would leave Tyson in January 2020.

She will replace co-CEOs Erickson and his wife, Kit Crawford, who remain on the company’s board of directors. Clif Bar sells nutritional energy bars such as Clif and Luna.

Grimes was one of four former Hillshire executives who took prominent roles on the leadership team when Tom Hayes was named CEO at the end of 2016. Of the four, the only one left is Mary Oleksiuk, executive vice president and chief human resources officer.

Hayes, who resigned in September 2018, is now a partner with Entrepreneurial Equity Partners in Boston, and former North American President Andy Callahan is now CEO of Hostess Brands in Kansas City.
