Arkansas Metro Housing Costs Trend Lower Than U.S.

Housing costs in central Arkansas compare favorably with those in other metropolitan areas, a recent report by planning agency Metroplan shows.

The median cost for residents with a mortgage was $1,185 a month in 2018, 24% lower than the national figure of $1,566, according to “Metro Trends: Demographic Review & Outlook,” released last month.

“The area is also a comparative bargain for renters,” the report said. The median renter cost was $821 in 2018, or about 23% below the U.S. average.

Metroplan is the planning agency for Faulkner, Lonoke, Pulaski and Saline counties.
