Meteorologist Skot Covert is officially joining KTHV full time as part of THV11’s “Wake Up Central” and weather teams, the CBS affiliate announced this week.

An Ozark native who grew up “obsessed with Arkansas weather,” Covert joined the station part time in early 2020 and is a former chief of staff for the state auditor’s office.

A graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville and Mississippi State in Starkville, Covert said in a news release that the chance to watch the skies for THV11 and its morning show “is a reality that far exceeds my wildest dreams.”

Covert has served twice on Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s State Emergency Response Commission, has been a member of the Arkansas 911 Board and was honored as a “20 In Their 20s” selection by Arkansas Business in 2013.

“Skot’s passion for explaining weather in a calm and relatable way stood out from his first day at THV11,” News Director Shayla Teater said. “He is beloved by our team for his hard work, passion, and fun personality.”

One station insider said Covert was appreciated for his wit as well as his serious approach to delivering the weather. The station also praised his rapport with co-hosts Amanda Jaeger and Rob Evans on “Wake Up Central” since he unofficially joined the program last fall.

“He’s helping us enter a new era of fun but informative and unique morning television,” KTHV President and General Manager Marty Schack said in a statement describing Covert. “His knowledge and experience in severe weather moments, as well as forecasting, allows him to fit in nicely with THV11’s robust weather team,” led by Chief Meteorologist Tom Brannon.

Covert, who was named the 2021 President of the Arkansas Tech Alumni Association, will begin his full-time role at Channel 11 next month, the station said in a news release.
