Kelly Accepts Associate Role at Rockefeller Cancer Institute (Movers & Shakers)

Thomas J. Kelly Jr. has been named associate director for cancer research and training at the Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Kelly is a cancer researcher and associate professor of pathology and will become a full professor in July. He is also the director of the graduate program in pathobiology.

Kelly replaces Dr. Richard W. Nicholas, a professor of orthopedic surgery, who is stepping down.

Dr. Edward T.H. Yeh was named a scholar and Alan Tackett has been honored as a fellow by the Arkansas Research Alliance. Yeh will receive $500,000 and Tackett will receive $75,000 to further their research.

Yeh joined UAMS in 2020 as chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and the Nolan Family Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine in the College of Medicine.

Tackett is deputy director of the UAMS Rockefeller Cancer Institute, professor in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and holder of the Scharlau Family Endowed Chair in Cancer Research.

Carol Witham has joined Pillar Clinical Research of Richardson, Texas, as CEO, but she will continue to live and work in Little Rock. Witham has more than 30 years of experience in the medical and pharmaceutical industry. She is the founder of Woodland International Research Group of Little Rock and Woodland Research Northwest in Rogers and was their CEO until their sale in 2014.


Ashley Hooten

Ashley Hooten has been hired as director of development of the Salvation Army’s Central Arkansas Command in Little Rock.

Hooten was previously the director of institutional advancement of the Baptist Preparatory School.
