Gift to JBU Honors NWA Poultry Pioneers

John Brown University at Siloam Springs has received a $150,000 grant from the Willard & Pat Walker Charitable Foundation for the creation of the June & Robert J. Loyd Endowed Scholarship in honor of the founders of Springdale Farms, one of the first poultry processing businesses in northwest Arkansas.

JBU matched the Walker Foundation’s gift for a total endowment of $300,000. The scholarship will go to students from northwest Arkansas based on financial need, and it will be made available next fall semester.

Robert James “Jack” Loyd and Iris “June” Loyd met in high school in Burbank, Oklahoma, and married in 1943.

After Jack Loyd returned from serving in the Navy in World War II, his family started an agriculture business in Springdale, which included a poultry processing plant.
