Spencer Selected as Vice Chancellor at UAM (Movers & Shakers)

Mark Spencer, dean of the School of Arts & Humanities at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been named associate vice chancellor for program development, assessment and distance learning.

Justin Anders, former chair of the Division of Music, has been named interim dean of the School of Arts & Humanities. Scott Bearden, assistant professor of music, has been named the interim chair of the Music Division.

Melvin Beavers, assistant professor in the Department of Rhetoric & Writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, has been selected as the inaugural Chancellor’s Fellow for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, which is responsible for helping to coordinate and support DEI initiatives on campus.

Beavers earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Central Arkansas and a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and a doctorate in higher education administration from UA Little Rock.


David Mason has been named dean of workforce development at North Arkansas College of Harrison. Mason comes to Northark from the University of California, Riverside, where he had been the regional director of apprenticeship programs since July 2020. He holds a master’s degree in counseling education from San Jose State University.


Aida Ramos has been named dean of the College of Education & Social & Behavioral Sciences at John Brown University of Siloam Springs. Ramos most recently served as an associate professor in the Department of Social Work, Sociology & Criminal Justice at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor of Belton, Texas.
