Jen Gerber on Thursday announced that she's stepping down as executive director of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival after six years leading the organization.

The move takes effect May 31, Gerber said in a news release. The group's board of directors is in the process of finding her replacement and is working with Gerber to ensure a smooth transition.

"I am profoundly thankful to our board, staff, volunteers and sponsors who continue to invest their passion, resources and time to keep this organization on an upward path," Gerber said.

Gerber previously served as the festival's technology director and was a print traffic manager and tech director for the Eureka Springs Indie Film Festival, media team director of the Little Rock Film Festival and interim director of the Columbia University Film Festival.

She's leaving the Hot Springs festival as she prepares to begin production on her second feature film, a project that's "many years" in the making. Production is scheduled to begin in Hot Springs in July.

Gerber said she'll continue to teach filmmaking at the nonprofit arts organization Low Key Arts in Hot Springs.

"I have no doubt that HSDFF will continue to be a bright and shining light within the documentary film community and I look forward to seeing the vision the next Executive Director will bring," she said.
