Simmons Bank of Pine Bluff announced that it has hired Cole Plafcan as senior vice president, director of Agricultural Lending, a newly created division within its Community Banking group.

Plafcan will lead efforts to expand the bank's agricultural business across its six-state footprint, the bank said in a news release.

Plafcan has more than 25 years of experience in agricultural lending. He was previously senior vice president, chief lending & marketing officer at AgHeritage Farm Credit Services of Little Rock, where he was responsible for the overall marketing strategy for loans, products and services. He also oversaw development and implementation of business plans and operational policies.

Freddie Black, executive vice president and chief community banking officer, said Plafcan is "natural fit" for Simmons.

"As we continue to expand lending activity across our footprint, this new division will provide Simmons Bank an even greater opportunity to connect customers with products and services to meet their needs," Black said.

Plafcan is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, where he played for the Razorback football team. He has served as a chairman of the Lonoke County Committee for Farm Family of the Year and as president of the Junior Deputy Baseball League board.
