Heifer International Is Selling Its Little Rock Campus

2 min read

Heifer International has reached an agreement to sell its Little Rock campus, but plans to remain in the top two floors under a long-term lease, the nonprofit announced on Tuesday.

OneHealth Education Group of Little Rock, the company working with Lyon College of Batesville to create Arkansas’ first dental and veterinary schools, is purchasing the campus. Plans are for the new schools to occupy most of the property.

Heifer cited its staff’s “strong preference for hybrid work arrangements” following the pandemic and the resulting reduction in its need for office space as the catalyst for this decision. The nonprofit said proceeds from the sale will support larger, scalable programs.

The price of the transaction was not disclosed.

Heifer opened its $17.5 million, 94,000-SF and four-story building on the 33-acre campus at 1 World Ave. in 2006. Former President Bill Clinton spoke at the dedication.

The “green” campus also includes the $13.5 million Heifer Village, which comprises the Murphy-Keller Education Center as well as an open commons and restored wetlands area, all of which opened in 2009.

Heifer will continue to own and operate the Heifer Ranch in Perryville after the sale.

President and CEO Pierre Ferrari said the property’s new owners envision “a thriving center for education and learning at the heart of the city.”

He also said, “Heifer International has a long history in Arkansas and we remain committed to Little Rock and our work with farmers across the state.

“With global hunger rates on the rise for the first time in decades, it is our strong belief that Heifer International needs to deploy all its available resources in service of communities around the world. Selling the Little Rock campus enables us to unlock more resources in support of our programs, getting help to the people that need it most.”
