Memphis-based Central BBQ’s newest restaurant will be in Fayetteville, set to open in early 2023.

The company’s eighth location will sit inside Fayetteville-based Specialized Real Estate Group’s newest development, South Yard, set to finish construction in late 2022. In addition to Central BBQ, The South Yard development will offer other restaurants, entertainment, small office and retail space, a public park and 128 apartments.

Central BBQ was opened in 2002 by Craig Blondis and Roger Sapp and is regarded as one of the best BBQ spots in Memphis. It has been featured on the Food Network, in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Southern Living, Garden & Gun and Men’s Health.

This will be the first location in Arkansas. The restaurant has six locations in Tennessee and one opening this fall in Mississippi.

When asked why they chose Fayetteville over other Arkansas locations, the company said they “loved the commitment to the outdoors, commitment to community and commitment to fun that the city endorses. We felt like CBQ would fit right in there.”

As for the restaurant's plans to expand in the Arkansas market, “Arkansas is on our hot list but mum’s the word on our next location,” the company said in an email response.
