Chris Kane, a KATV morning anchor and a familiar face on Channel 7’s newscasts for more than a dozen years, has left the station.
Kane, who anchored "Daybreak" and "Good Morning Arkansas" after starting as a sports desk intern, announced on social media that Friday, Aug. 12, was his last broadcast day.
“It’s been an amazing run,” he wrote on Twitter. “From starting as an intern in the sports department with Sully, Dale Nicholson III and Anthony Eckert to having the opportunity to do Daybreak with Melinda Mayo and Alyson Courtney, it’s been an experience I’ll never forget.”
He thanked viewers for making “Daybreak” a top ratings performer for over a decade, and promised to deliver more news on his future soon.
Courtney announced in April that she was leaving the station’s morning crew to help her two young daughters with potential acting careers.
KATV News Director Amy Sullivan wished Kane well and said the station is looking for the right morning combination. “Right now we’re searching for the right team to continue the KATV legacy,” she told Arkansas Business.
A Little Rock native enchanted by the Jacksonville Jaguars after moving to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, at age 10, Kane got a radio and television journalism degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, but he never lost his fervor for the Razorbacks, and he covered them extensively.
An avid outdoorsman, he hosted FLW College Fishing on VS. Network with former Channel 7 host Jason Harper and professional fisherman Justin Lucas, and he’s a member of the broadcast team for University of Central Arkansas football.
