Walmart has started making deliveries in Texas using electric vehicles manufactured by its Bentonville neighbor Canoo.
The deliveries began less than two weeks after Walmart announced a 4,500-vehicle purchase agreement with Canoo to support its growing e-commerce business. Canoo's Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle, an SUV-like model, is now making real-world deliveries in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for Walmart's InHome service.
The vehicles have been "turning a lot of heads" in the area, CEO Tony Aquila said in a news release.
The delivery rollout comes ahead of the vehicle's official debut in 2023.
Canoo's five-year agreement with Walmart gives the retail giant the option to purchase up to 10,000 vehicles. The companies have also entered into a Warrant Issuance Agreement that could result in Walmart owning more than 20% of the electric vehicle maker.
