Kade Holliday Sentenced to 57 Months for Stealing $1.58M

2 min read

Former Craighead County Clerk Jacob “Kade” Holliday was sentenced Wednesday to 57 months in federal prison for stealing more than $1.5 million in county money.

In June 2020, Craighead County officials reported a theft from the Craighead County Clerk’s office. The bank that managed the clerk’s office account had noticed suspicious activity. Auditors found that $1.58 million was missing and had been moved to Holliday’s personal banking accounts, according to a news release from Jonathan D. Ross, United States attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Holliday, 34, was interviewed by investigators and admitted to taking the money to fund his businesses: Holliday Development & Management LLC, and Total Healthcare LLC, which operated restaurants and coffee shops in Jonesboro. Holliday told investigators he planned to pay the money back but couldn’t after COVID hit and caused his businesses to close.

A grand jury charged Holliday in December 2020 with 11 counts of wire fraud for each withdrawal he made from the county account. He pleaded guilty in February.

He said his scheme involved making a transfer from the county account to one of his personal accounts and then obtaining a cashier’s check from his personal account for the same amount.

He pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud for his first fraudulent transfer of $101,783 on January 29, 2020. In his plea agreement, Holliday also agreed to pay $1.58 in restitution to Craighead County.

Holliday is serving a 10-year sentence for forgery at the Arkansas Department of Corrections. His earliest parole date is Sept. 17, 2023.

U.S. District Judge James M. Moody, Jr. sentenced Holliday and ordered that his federal sentence will not start until the state sentence is completed.

Holliday also will be on three years probation after his federal prison sentence is over.
