New housing units started in central Arkansas reached 3,391 in 2021, the region’s highest total since 2007, according to a report by Metroplan, the area’s planning agency.

“Construction of new single-family units totaled 1,908, also the highest since 2007,” said the report, “Metro Trends: Demographic Trends & Outlook.”

“The greatest uptick was in North Little Rock, which saw new single-family starts more than double, from 87 to 180,” said the report, released in July and focusing on housing in central Arkansas.

Total multifamily starts were 1,483, above average but not record-breaking, Metroplan said.
