If all goes as planned, North Little Rock will be getting a new cocktail bar, The Island, on Saturday. Owner Herb Montgomery of Jacksonville described The Island, at 4812 John F. Kennedy Blvd., as a place for people to socialize while quaffing wine and cocktails with a focus on daiquiris. Deli sandwiches, pizza and salads will also be available.
The 1,900-SF venue will seat 60 and be open 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Montgomery, a district manager for Circle K Stores, comes from a family of bar and restaurant owners in Lafayette, Louisiana. His father owned several bars in Lafayette, Montgomery said.
“Few people really like going to the live clubs anymore, to the bars,” he said. “A lot of people I’ve noted and talked to really want to just go to a place where it’s just relaxing, just not have the loud DJ music, just not have the loud crowds. They want to go there for a couple of hours, socialize, talk and then go home and get ready for work the next day.”
