The nonpartisan Education Commission of the States has chosen Gov. Asa Hutchinson as its chairman.

The Denver-based organization tracks state education policy on a wide variety of topics, translates research, provides advice and "creates opportunities for state policymakers to learn from one another," according to its website.

Hutchinson's focus during his tenure as chairman will be on science education.

"It is an honor to have been selected as Chairman of ECS," he said in a news release. "Arkansas has been a leader in education from computer science to pandemic learning, and I am excited for the opportunity to work with other leaders to secure our children's future."
