Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Wednesday for a 45,000-SF food hub in downtown Springdale.

The Market Center of the Ozarks will be on East Meadow Avenue and is part of the Walton Family Foundation’s Northwest Arkansas Food Systems initiative. The $31 million hub will include commercial kitchens and community space and improve access to locally produced food.

“Market Center of the Ozarks is another bold step to position northwest Arkansas as a national model for locally grown food,” Tom Walton said. “This innovation and community hub will offer farmers and entrepreneurs the support they need to get healthy food on tables across the region.”

The hub will have space for farmers to process their crops and storage areas. The foundation’s systems initiative will also provide education and resources to farmers.

The facility will be designed by Patterhn Ives LLC of St. Louis and CDI Contractors of Little Rock will be the general contractor. The facility is expected to open in early 2024.
