Electric vehicle startup Canoo Inc., which is relocating to Bentonville, has announced plans for a battery module manufacturing facility in Pryor, Oklahoma.
Renovations are expected to begin this quarter at a 100,000-SF building on 10 acres. Manufacturing equipment is scheduled to arrive at the facility in the first quarter in 2023.
Modules will be made on high-capacity assembly lines with automated machinery, Canoo said in a news release. The battery plant will be located near Canoo's first "mega microfactory," a 400-acre campus that will include a paint, body shop and general assembly plant.
Canoo said the battery plant and mega microfactory will have more than 2,000 employees combined.
"This is the first building block for Canoo’s production ramp strategy, with more news coming very soon," CEO Tony Aquila said in a news release.
Canoo has partnered with Panasonic as its battery cell provider.
