UAMS Gains Two New Chairs (Movers & Shakers)

Susan Smyth ( UAMS)

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences of Little Rock has invested Andrew Morris in the Mehta/Stebbins Chair in Cardiovascular Research. Morris is a professor in the UAMS Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology and a research investigator at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. The chair was established in 2011 from the estate of Howard and Elsie Stebbins.

Dr. Susan Smyth has been invested in the Arkansas Medical Society Distinguished Dean’s Chair. Smyth is the UAMS executive vice chancellor and College of Medicine dean. The chair is the college’s most important leadership post and was established in 2017 by the College of Medicine and the Arkansas Medical Society.

April Bennett ( Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway)

April Bennett is the new president of Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway. Bennett has served as the hospital’s chief nursing officer since 2020 and also leads the medical and surgical nursing consortium for all 11 of Baptist Health’s hospitals. Before joining Baptist Health, Bennett worked for Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri, where she was the vice president of nursing services for seven years.
