Arkansas State University Chancellor Todd Shields has named Len Frey interim provost.
Frey is the university’s executive vice chancellor for finance and administration and chief operating officer. He's taking on the duties of provost after Alan Utter stepped down from the role at the end of the fall semester. The university said Utter is returning to a faculty position.
"I am appreciative that Len is taking on these additional duties for the next few months, and I want to thank him in advance," Shields said in a statement. "I’m thankful that we have someone available who can oversee our Division of Academic Affairs and Research that knows the campus and already has relationships with our academic leaders."
Frey said he will not be a candidate for the permanent appointment.
He's an Arkansas State graduate who returned to his alma mater in Jonesboro in 2000 as chair of the Department of Management and Marketing. he became dean of the Griffin College of Business in 2005.
Frey assumed his current role as executive vice chancellor and chief operating officer in 2012.
Frey won the Arkansas Business CFO of the Year award in education in 2017.
