The Conway-based Creative Institute of Central Arkansas has appointed co-founder Nick Stevens as executive director of the organization.
“I am most excited about the expansion of our training programs to reach additional members of our community,” Stevens said in a news release. “We are committed to equipping individuals with the industry knowledge, leadership development and communication skills they need to succeed in the Arkansas creative economy.”
The institute is designed as a gap-year program, allowing "young adults ages 18-24 to explore potential creative careers," according to a press release from Silverlake Design Studio of Conway, a branding and website design company for small businesses and nonprofits. Students grow their skillset through hands-on experiences in various creative fields.
Stevens has served as the nonprofit’s program director alongside co-founder Jessica Crum since the organization’s opening in 2020. In this role, Stevens designed a curriculum for the nonprofit and organized funding from organizations such as the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and the Arkansas Community Foundation. He also established partnerships with the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, EAST Initiative and the Arkansas Council to aid in the nonprofit’s development. Additionally, Stevens serves as an instructor for the institute.
Crum, the former executive director of the Creative Institute, will continue to support the organization as chair of the board of directors.
"The Creative Institute’s future, our team and our participants are in excellent hands with Nick," Crum said in a news release. "His vision and innovative approach will continue to foster long-term partnerships and programming that empower creative Arkansans to flourish."
Crum is also responsible for co-opening The Studio Downtown of Conway in 2021, a coworking space for artists available through a monthly membership, and is the owner of Silverlake Design Studio.
A Welcome and Wine Reception will be held July 13 to celebrate Stevens' promotion. More information and registration for the event can be found here.
