Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday announced that she had reappointed Susannah Marshall as commissioner of the Arkansas State Bank Department.
Marshall was first appointed to the position in 2020 by former Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
As bank commissioner, she's responsible for the regulation, supervision and examination of Arkansas' 73 state-chartered banks, which have total assets of more than $153 billion.
Marshall joined the department in 1995 as a commercial bank examiner. She became a financial analyst with the department in 2003. Two years later, she was promoted to financial analyst supervisor, a position she held until her appointment as deputy bank commissioner in 2007.
“Susannah has been an exemplary leader for the Arkansas State Bank Department,” Hugh McDonald, state secretary of commerce, said in a statement. “Her institutional experience and knowledge ensure that the State Bank Department has a capable leader in service to our state’s banking industry.”
Marshall holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from Arkansas State University. She graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking in Dallas in 2002.
She's a board member of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and is serving her second two-year term on the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council's state liaison committee.
Marshall is also a member of the Arkansas Business 40 Under 40 class of 2011. She was named to the publication's Top 100 Women of Impact in Arkansas for 2023.
"I am honored that Governor Sanders and Secretary McDonald have given me the opportunity to continue to serve as the Commissioner of the Arkansas State Bank Department," Marshall said. "As Commissioner, I have worked to help our state’s banking industry grow, and I aim to increase these efforts as we build stronger regulatory partnerships that will enable Arkansas banks to be national leaders in banking and finance."
