Hillary Clinton, Robert Putnam to Discuss Civic Engagement Film in Little Rock

As part of the Frank and Kula Kumpuris Lecture series, Hillary Rodham Clinton will join political scientist Robert Putnam to discuss a new documentary about civic engagement.

A discussion of "Join or Die" is slated for Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Robinson Center in downtown Little Rock. Filmmakers Pete and Rebecca Davis will also take part.

The documentary focuses on civic engagement, its decline and how that could impact America's future.

Putnam, a Harvard professor, is an acclaimed political and social scientist whose work has centered on the evolution of American civil society. In 2012, Putnam was awarded the National Humanities Medal, the nation's highest honor for contributions to the humanities.

"Join or Die" is about America's "civic unraveling" through the lens of Putnam's scholarship and research. It questions the future of democracy and how restoring civic engagement could bring renewed strength back to governance.

The Frank & Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series is presented by the Clinton Foundation, the Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas, the Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, and AT&T.
