The Arkansas Children’s Foundation this week, in separate news releases, announced that the Whitaker Family Foundation of Fayetteville and businessman Sam Mathias have donated a combined $1.7 million to Arkansas Children’s Northwest hospital in Springdale.
The new $167 million, 233,613-SF hospital is set to open this month or in early February.
The Whitaker Family Foundation, a nonprofit focused on children’s health care and education, donated $1 million.
Mathias, who owns Today’s Bank of Huntsville and Mathias Properties of Springdale, donated $700,000. More than 20 years ago, his granddaughter, shortly after she was born, was a patient at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
The gifts bring the total raised by the “Care Close to Home: The Campaign for Arkansas Children’s Northwest” to over $68 million.
