After suing the federal government last week, Ralph Bradbury on Monday sued his former employer and its owners in connection with an unpaid $750,000 Internal Revenue Service bill.
In a lawsuit filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court late Monday, Bradbury, who was president of the trucking company Continental Express Inc. of Little Rock, said he was hit with a tax bill for the quarter that ended Sept. 30, 2008.
He said the bill should have gone to the owners of Continental Express, Ed and Bonnie Harvey, and their financial adviser, Marvin Jones of Little Rock.
Bradbury alleges in the lawsuit that, instead of paying the IRS, Bonnie Harvey and Jones "diverted funds from Continental for their personal gain and to" five unnamed people. Those unnamed people are also named as defendants along with Continental Express, the Harveys and Jones.
Bradbury said in the lawsuit that Jones and Bonnie Harvey had no intention of paying the tax bill, even though Bradbury told them it needed to be paid. Bradbury also said that Jones and Bonnie Harvey "timed the sale of Continental's assets to avoid seizure by the IRS."
On Dec. 4, 2008, Continental's assets were sold to Celadon Trucking Services Inc.
Bradbury is seeking an unspecified amount of damages against the defendants.
The Harveys' attorney, Price Gardner of Little Rock, said in an email to ArkansasBusiness.com Tuesday that he doesn't comment on pending litigation.
Jones couldn't be reached for comment.
Last week, Bradbury sued the IRS in an attempt to have the tax bill dismissed against him.
