Arkansas Business was almost 30 when I was hired as its publisher by Olivia Farrell, then CEO of Arkansas Business Publishing Group, in 2013.

As she had added titles to the roster of publications — Arkansas Bride, Little Rock Soirée, Greenhead and so many more — she periodically considered renaming the company to reflect that variety, but she never did. I bought ABPG from Olivia and her investors in 2019, its 35th year, and I haven’t changed the name either.

Arkansas Business is our flagship. For four decades, our staff has gained experience and expertise by serving the business community of this state with news and data and all-important context.

Our goal has always been to bring you, the readers for whom Arkansas Business exists, reliable information of value or interest that you can’t get anywhere else. The remarkable loyalty of our audience has both affirmed our success and made it possible.

This magazine celebrates our 40th anniversary by reminding you just how much Arkansas business news, big and small, we have brought you through the years. If you’ve been around for very many of those years, I think you’ll be surprised by how much you remember — and by how much you have forgotten.

For younger readers, this publication may be a revelation.

“What’s past is prologue,” Shakespeare wrote, and in these pages we also take a stab at looking to the future of various industries.

Maybe for our 50th, which I hope and expect to see, we can assess how close we came.
