A House committee narrowly approved Friday a bill that would provide for non-partisan elections of prosecuting attorneys.
House Bill 1380, by Rep. Andrea Lea, R-Russellville, made it through House State Agencies on an 11-9 vote. Interestingly, the vote was almost entirely partisan. Rep. Clark Hall, D-Marvell, joined 10 Republicans to vote for the bill, while nine Democrats voted against it.
Opposition centered on the hit political-party coffers would take if prosecuting-attorney candidates didn't have to pay a filing fee.
