Nexstar Moves Forward with KWBF Despite Equity's Trouble

Despite Equity Media Holding Corp.'s recent bankruptcy filing, Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. of Irving, Texas, does not foresee any problems occurring in the recent transaction it conducted with the Little Rock broadcaster.

Nexstar bought Little Rock station KWBF-TV, Channel 42, for $4 million from Equity, which is seeking voluntary Chapter 11 restructuring. However, Nexstar, which owns KARK-TV, Channel 4, is sinking more than $1 million into building out the NBC affiliate's station, Gayle Kiger, KARK general manager, said.

The money is going toward new technology to all the stations to streamline their broadcasting abilities. That includes adding equipment in the master control operation center, which will play back all the programming on air and allow for the insertion of advertising on air.

"We are anticipating the close of the station at the end of the year and are making arrangements for the housing of the station here at KARK," Kiger said.
