Bill Would Prohibit Arkansas Drivers From Using Cell Phones

A bill filed in the state Legislature on Wednesday would prohibit people in Arkansas from using cell phones while driving.

HB1013 was filed by Rep. Ray Kidd, D-Jonesboro. Click here to download the bill (PDF).

According to the bill, "the driver of a motor vehicle shall not use a handheld cellular telephone for wireless interactive communication."

The driver could, however, use one in emergencies. People performing official duties as "certified law enforcement" officers, firefighters, ambulance drivers or emergency medical technicians would also be exempt.
