The Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University in New York is planning an exhibit of works by Fayetteville native Jed Jackson early next year. Unfortunately, according to curator Michael Beam, the whereabouts of one of Jackson's most important works is unknown.

The painting, "Arkansas Sunset," was used as cover art for the Goo Goo Dolls' 1989 album, "Jed." But the painting itself, which measures a hefty 40 inches square, is believed to have been sold at the Arkansas Arts Center's Delta Exhibition in 1980. The buyer is described only as "a prominent rice farmer in central Arkansas," and Beam said the Arts Center has been unable to provide any additional information.

Jackson is a professor of painting at the University of Memphis. A biography on the university's Web site indicates that his works are in the collections of the Arkansas Art Center and Stephens Inc.

Beam would like to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of "Arkansas Sunset." Contact him at mjbeam@niagara.edu (716) 286-8286.
