The search for Little Rock businessman John Glasgow continued Friday morning in Petit Jean State Park, where Glasgow's car was located on Tuesday, the day after he was reported missing from his Little Rock home.
"They are breaking up into three-person teams, doing a tight grid-type search, including around Tanyard Springs and the cliff faces there on the south side of Petit Jean," Glasgow's brother, Little Rock lawyer Roger Glasgow, told ArkansasBusiness.com Friday.
An Arkansas State Police helicopter was resuming its search, and the State Police's "best dog" was being brought in on Friday, Roger Glasgow said. Search dogs picked up a scent on the Cedar Creek trail between Cedar Falls and the Blue Hole area of the state park on Thursday but eventually lost it, he said.
A .22 rifle that at first was thought to be missing was later found in Glasgow's home on South Lookout Street, his brother said.
"It's very puzzling. It's puzzling to us, it's puzzling to the authorities, it's puzzling to the people he works with - just to disappear into thin blue air without a trace. He had not been depressed leading up to this," Roger Glasgow said.
John Glasgow, 45, had attended a get-together at a cousin's house in Little Rock on Sunday night, according to his brother. His wife, Melinda Glasgow, told the Little Rock Police Department that her husband was last seen leaving home about 5:15 a.m. on Monday.
He had been expected at his job as vice president and chief financial officer of CDI Contractors, the commercial construction company owned by Dillard's Inc. and heirs of the late Bill Clark. Roger Glasgow said his brother had been overworked in recent weeks.
"Bill Clark's stock is to be redistributed, and in the process of that you have to value the company, so you have to do an updated evaluation of inventory, property, the whole company assets...," Roger Glasgow said. "That requires a lot of accounting work, so [John is] responsible for that at the same time their outside auditor comes in to do their year-end audit."
John Glasgow had been working weekends and going to the office very early in the mornings, his brother said.
"So basically his work load has been way more than normal. He was overworked, tired, but other than that he was in real good spirits. Nothing that anyone noticed was unusual."
Melinda Glasgow alerted police on Monday afternoon when he didn't show up for work and didn't respond to calls to his cell phone.
Roger Glasgow said a cell phone led to the discovery of John Glasgow's car at Mather Lodge in Petit Jean State Park on Tuesday afternoon. The Alltel phone was provided by CDI, so the company asked Alltel to trace any call activity. A "ping" was detected on a tower near Petit Jean, and John Glasgow's car was discovered shortly thereafter.
