LRCVB Announces 4 Architectural, Design Finalists for Robinson Center Renovation

2 min read

The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau on Monday announced four architectural and design team finalists for renovation and expansion of Robinson Center and Robinson Center Music Hall in Little Rock.

The finalists are:

  • Wittenberg Delony & Davidson of Little Rock, partnered with Studio RED of Houston;
  • Martinez + Johnson of Washington DC, partnered with Roark Perkins Perry Yelvington of Little Rock;
  • Ennead Architects of New York, partnered with Polk Stanley Wilcox of Little Rock;
  • Witsell Evans Rasco of Little Rock, partnered with LMN of Seattle.

Each finalist will be asked to present to the Little Rock Advertising and Promotion Commission on Nov. 29.

The commission will then make the final determination after the presentations.

The LRCVB called for renovation proposals in October.

City officials announced in June that they wanted to renovate the facility. They were aiming for a tentative completion date of fall 2016 and a preliminary estimate of $64.5 million.

City leaders want to restore the exterior of the existing facility and add meeting, conference and service capabilities by building onto the north and west sides of it.

The center has been open since December 1939 and cost $860,000 to construct.

On Monday, Gretchen Hall, LRCVB president and CEO, said she expects most of the renovation project will be paid for with a bond initiative using the current advertising and promotion tax revenue.

“However, selecting the design team to begin work in further defining the project plans and cost estimates will aide in determining the financing options best suited for the project,” she said.

The LRCVB said the renovation will run concurrently with the Arkansas Highway Department’s construction on the Broadway Bridge.
