Jacob Rice Makes Move to Bank of Little Rock as Loan Officer (Movers & Shakers)

Jacob Rice has been hired as a loan officer by Bank of Little Rock Mortgage and will work in its Little Rock location. Rice previously worked for Central Mortgage Co. and as a loan originator for ENG Lending of England.


State Land Commissioner John Thurston was elected vice president of the Western States Land Commissioners Association at its summer conference in Omaha, Neb. Created in 1949, WSLCA represents 23 Western states that manage more than 440 million acres of public and school trust land, surface and subsurface mineral rights properties and submerged lake, river and coastal acreage.

Samantha Evans of Conway, assistant director of Main Street Arkansas, recently was awarded a graduation certificate from the Community Development Institute-Central at the University of Central Arkansas. The certificate recognizes completion of all three years of the institute’s program of study.

Health Care

Drs. Ramon Vista, Terry Burns, Jerry Mann and Mary Shields have joined the family practice staff of ARcare of Augusta, as have advanced practice nurses Randi Perry and Crystal Adams and physician assistant David Brightwell. Mann and Brightwell have been treating ARcare patients in Melbourne since June. Burns sees patients in Batesville, and Shields sees patients at the Southside Batesville clinic. Vista, who recently graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock, will serve the England community. Perry and Adams will provide care at the Jonesboro North, Jonesboro South and Lake City medical clinics.

Dr. Brandon Byrd has joined the orthopedic clinic at Mercy Hospital Hot Springs. Byrd is a Jonesboro native who attended Lyon College in Batesville and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock. He spent the past five years in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

Rebecca “Becky” Simmons, a licensed practical nurse from Marked Tree, has been named a certified transplant perfusionist by the American Board for Transplant Certification. Simmons is employed by the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, the nonprofit organ procurement organization serving a 150-mile radius around Memphis.


Shauna Carpenter has joined 1011 Web Solutions LLC of Little Rock as social media/online marketing specialist. Carpenter has more than 10 years of experience in copywriting, editing, public relations and marketing. Most recently, she served as a copywriter and editor in the consumer marketing department of Windstream Corp.


Kenneth R. “Kenny” Hall, executive vice president of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce/Associated Industries of Arkansas, was recently installed as 2013-14 president of the Arkansas Society of Association Executives. Brent Stevenson was installed as vice president and Vicki Farmer as secretary-treasurer. Montine McNulty is the immediate past president. Other board members are Leigh Anderson, Nancy Elphingstone, Jeffery Hall, Karen Hutchins, Brian Itzkowitz, Derek Rudkin and Jodiane Tritt. The ASAE gave its annual Excellence in Communications Award to Eileen Denne of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association for APA’s immunization program. Billy Tarpley, executive director of the Arkansas State Dental Association, received the Ken Graves Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in the profession of association management.


Heather Akkub has been hired by Mainstream Technologies of Little Rock to fill a newly created position providing accounting and other administrative functions and sales support for the Software Solutions Unit. Akkub, a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, most recently worked in the revenue department of Windstream Communications, and she previously worked in public accounting.
