Dustin McDaniel: Deal in Place to End Desegregation Lawsuit

1 min read

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says an agreement is in place to end a decades-long desegregation lawsuit involving three Little Rock-area school districts.

McDaniel spoke to reporters on Tuesday about two hours before the proposed settlement was to be presented to a federal judge.

The agreement would eventually end state money flowing to the Little Rock, North Little Rock and Pulaski County Special school districts. School patrons involved in the litigation are also on board with the settlement.

McDaniel says terms of the agreement could still be altered in order to gain the court’s approval. He said the matter could still be the focus of a trial if the settlement collapses.

The decades-old desegregation lawsuit has resulted in Arkansas spending more than $1 billion to integrate schools in Pulaski County.
