A Message From Mitch Bettis, President of Arkansas Business Publishing Group

2 min read

Being a CEO, CFO, board member or any senior company leader has always been challenging, but in recent years, the role has grown uniquely difficult and more complex.

Today’s leaders face an unprecedented convergence of pressures: rapid technological advancements, a volatile global economy and a constantly evolving regulatory landscape. The rise of social media has added a new layer of scrutiny, where a single misstep can trigger widespread backlash. Leaders are no longer just responsible for ensuring financial success — they must also navigate the increasingly intertwined responsibilities of corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.

The global workforce has become more dynamic, with employees expecting more from their leaders in terms of transparency, ethical decision-making and work-life balance. Managing these expectations while driving innovation, growth, and shareholder value requires juggling multiple, often competing, priorities.

Add to this the challenges posed by political polarization, public health crises, and supply chain disruptions, and it’s clear that today’s CEOs and CFOs are expected to not only react to crises but to foresee and prepare for them in an environment where uncertainty is the only constant. The complexity of leadership today demands resilience, adaptability, and an ever-growing set of skills to succeed in this increasingly high-stakes role. Along the way, these leaders have families to balance and nurture, and have to find ways to stay mentally and physically healthy themselves.

For more than 35 years, Arkansas Business has given awards to executives who have distinguished themselves as leaders. This year we will gather Nov. 5 for a celebration to pay tribute to these outstanding men and women.

We will also announce the winners from among the finalists representing small private companies, large private companies, nonprofit organizations and public sector organizations. Each of our honorees was chosen by an independent panel of judges who know firsthand about what it takes to run a successful C-suite.

As you read about this year’s finalists, we hope you’ll think about other C-suite leaders who are deserving of recognition and consider nominating them for the 2025 awards at arkansasbusiness.com/event/executive.

We’d also love to get your feedback about our Arkansas Executive of the Year program. You can email me at mbettis@abpg.com or call me at 501-455-9269.
