Remember just a few weeks back we told you about a case involving the U.S. government suing a Smackover pharmacy for filling prescriptions without properly verifying them?
Well that case settled recently. While denying it committed any of the violations alleged in the lawsuit, Smackover Pharmacy LLC agreed to pay the government $53,800 to settle the case.
“We’re going to aggressively use both civil and criminal enforcement to see that prescriptions are filled appropriately,” said Conner Eldridge, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. “Prescription drug abuse is a serious problem in Arkansas.” (For more on that, see Executive Q&A With Curt Bradbury, COO of Stephens Inc.)
He said it’s the No. 2 illegal drug issue in the state, second only to methamphetamine.
