The Burton residence is a dream project for a widow with two main hopes for where she would live the next chapter of her life: to feel lost in the woods of Arkansas and to live in a modern structure that would make her late husband proud.

The Arkansas Division of Public Schools Academic Facilities and Transportation had determined the existing Elkins High School needed to be replaced and the existing facility demolished. The citizens of Elkins supported a millage vote to fund a new high school, along with help from the state. The challenge was always to give the Elkins School District a building which would give a sense of permanence and pride while staying within its modest budget.

The Pulaski Technical College Fine & Performing Arts/Humanities Building is a multi-functional humanities, arts, and community-focused facility arranged in a multi-level design. The site’s topographical organization creates clear pathways that connect buildings to buildings, indoors to outdoors, and program to program while establishing a new welcoming gateway to an established campus.
