Amazon Shuts Down Little Rock Port Facility Over Building Design Concerns

1 min read

Amazon has closed its LIT1 fulfillment center at the Little Rock Port indefinitely due to building design errors that require “significant structural repairs,” Arkansas Business content partner KTHV reported Thursday.

Operations at the five-story, 3.7 million-SF facility on Zeuber Road began in 2021.

Now it’s in need of repairs to meet seismic codes and ensure employee safety.

“There’s no safe way to keep the building open during these repairs, and we’re left with no choice but to shut it down, which unfortunately impacts our entire team at LIT1,” Amazon said in a statement.

In a separate statement, Little Rock Regional Chamber President & CEO Jay Chesshir clarified that there was not a seismic event that led to the closure.

“This measure was completed out of an abundance of caution, not based on a historical event,” he said. “In the very rare chance a seismic event were to occur, Amazon is making modifications to protect their employees. We commend Amazon for the extra measures they are taking to support their employees.”
