Amazon Plans Last-Mile Facility in Hot Springs

2 min read

Online retail giant Amazon is planning to open a 35,000-SF last-mile facility in Hot Springs, local officials announced Friday.

Plans for the delivery station on Central Avenue are in the “very early stages,” according to a joint news release from the Hot Springs Metro Partnership/Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, the city of Hot Springs and Garland County. Renovations to an existing building, the exact location of which wasn’t specified, are scheduled to start in the coming weeks.

A Hot Springs spokesperson referred questions about the project’s cost, construction timeline and the number of jobs it will create to Seattle-based Amazon’s corporate office, which did not immediately respond.

Last-mile facilities are the final stops in Amazon’s transportation network before packages are delivered to customers’ doorsteps. Employees sort packages according to delivery routes who finish the shipping cycle by delivering goods like books, household items and toys.

“This last-mile facility will allow us to better serve customers in Hot Springs and the surrounding area,” Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon, said in a news release. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the Hot Springs Chamber and the City of Hot Springs. We look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future.”

The Hot Springs facility continues Amazon’s growth in central Arkansas. In recent years, the company has opened a 3.7 million-SF fulfillment center in Little Rock, a 1 million-SF fulfillment center in North Little Rock and a delivery center in Maumelle.

Amazon has also expanded to northwest Arkansas. In 2022, it opened a 60,000-SF last-mile facility in Lowell.

Amazon currently employs around 4,000 people in Arkansas. The company estimates it has invested $1.9 billion in compensation and infrastructure in the state since 2010.
