Amazon Plans Last-Mile Facility in Jonesboro

2 min read

Jonesboro economic developers on Thursday announced that online retail giant Amazon is entering into an agreement for a new last-mile facility in the city.

The 58,000-SF facility will be located on Moore Road off the Joe N Martin Expressway, Jonesboro Unlimited said in a news release. Plans for the facility were said to be in the “very early stages,” with renovations to an existing building scheduled to start in the coming weeks.

Last-mile facilities are the final stops in Amazon’s transportation network before packages are delivered to customers’ doorsteps.

Further details, including the estimated cost of the project and the number of jobs it will create, were not disclosed.

“This last-mile facility will allow us to better serve customers in Jonesboro and the surrounding area,” Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon, said in a statement. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the Jonesboro Chamber and the City of Jonesboro. We look forward to sharing more details about this facility and the good jobs we’ll offer in the future.”

The Jonesboro project is the second Amazon has announced in Arkansas in recent weeks. The Seattle-based company revealed on March 29 that a 35,000-SF last-mile facility was in the works in Hot Springs. Like the Jonesboro project, an existing building is being renovated to house the facility.

Amazon said it currently employs around 4,000 people in Arkansas and has invested $1.9 billion in compensation and infrastructure in the state since 2010.

In recent years, the company has opened a 3.7 million-SF fulfillment center in Little Rock; a 1 million-SF fulfillment center in North Little Rock; a 60,000-SF last-mile facility in Lowell and a delivery center in Maumelle.
