1 min read

The Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced the recipients of the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants.

TAP was reauthorized under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and supports projects that help pedestrians, bicyclists, and other non-motorized transportation. The program covers 80% of project costs with the remaining 20% provided locally.

Eligible TAP projects include:

  • Sidewalks and bike lanes
  • Pedestrian and bicycle signals
  • Lighting and other safety features
  • Conversion of abandoned railroads into trails

RTP funds come from TAP and focus specifically on recreational trails. Projects can include:

  • Maintaining or restoring existing trails
  • Building or upgrading trail facilities
  • Creating new trails or connecting existing ones

This year, 60 TAP projects were awarded $18.9 million and seven RTP projects were awarded $1.8 million.
