LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Agriculture Department has announced the retirement of Secretary of Agriculture Butch Calhoun.
Calhoun’s retirement becomes effective Dec. 31.
In a letter to Gov. Mike Beebe, Calhoun says that it has been “an honor and privilege” to serve in the governor’s administration for the past eight years as director of rural services and Secretary of Agriculture.
Calhoun was appointed Secretary of Agriculture in June 2012.
Calhoun said in a statement released by the agency Thursday that he was looking forward to spending more time with his family on his farm in Prairie County next year.
