Arkansas Arts Center Gets $203K Federal Grant

1 min read

The Arkansas Arts Center said Wednesday that it received a $203,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to support stewardship of the center’s 14,000 works of international art.

The money will support the complete inventory of the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection as well as rehousing two- and three-dimensional works to ensure their preservation. The Arkansas Arts Center was one of 109 institutions awarded grants by the Museums for America program this year and the only Arkansas organization to receive a grant.

“This grant allows us to accomplish behind-the-scenes collection development work that is absolutely critical during this time before we move into the new Arkansas Arts Center,” Executive Director Victoria Ramirez said. “A remarkable collection of art is entrusted to our care, and it is our responsibility to ensure that it is available for the enjoyment of our community now and for generations to come.”

The grant comes as the center continues work on a near-$100 million renovation and expansion. The center said the money will allow it to improve all aspects of its work, from exhibitions and educational programs to studio classes and community engagement.

It will also improve accuracy in identification and organization of the collection, collections research processes and systems for loaning artworks; and it will allow for the rehousing of artworks using materials in line with best practices for preservation.
