Carlos Clark, who joined the private, historically black liberal arts college as provost and executive vice president in 2018, will assume his new role Oct. 1.
Did you know a lawsuit between one of his predecessors and Arkansas Baptist was dismissed last month?
That dispute followed the forced exodus of Joseph Jones, who sued the college for wrongful termination. He left the open-enrollment school, whose financial lifeblood is Pell grants, an estimated $4 million hole at the end of his 15- month presidency.
Jones challenged the board of trustees’ contention that he was fired for cause on Dec. 18, 2017. Filed in July
2018, the case was scheduled for a four-day jury trial in August in Pulaski County Circuit Court.
Instead, court-ordered mediation produced an undisclosed settlement.
Two interim presidents filled the breach between the firing of Jones and the hiring of Clark: Howard Gibson, a former Arkansas Baptist administrator, and Regina Favors, a graduate and trustee of the college.
