2 min read

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield on Friday announced the hiring of Dr. Mark Jansen as vice president and chief medical officer and the promotion of Max Greenwood to vice president of government and media affairs.

Greenwood joined the company in 1996 as manager of public policy. Previously, she was press secretary for the Arkansas governor’s office, deputy press secretary for the Clinton presidential campaign and transition team and a capitol bureau reporter for the Arkansas Democrat and the Arkansas Gazette. In 2015, Greenwood was named director of governmental and media relations at Arkansas Blue Cross.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

Jansen is a veteran family practice physician and faculty member/administrator at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

He succeeds Dr. Connie Meeks, who retired recently.

Jansen, who has been board-certified in family practice medicine by the American Board of Family Practice since 1984, spent 29 years as a primary care physician in Arkadelphia before joining the UAMS faculty in 2013.

Most recently, he served as chief medical officer for regional programs for the UAMS Area Health Education Centers program.

He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and Arkansas Medical Society.

In April 2016, Jansen was invested as the inaugural recipient of the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield George K. Mitchell M.D. Endowed Chair in Primary Care.

The chair was established with a grant from the company.

Also, in 2015, Jansen was named Teacher of the Year in the UAMS Department of Family & Preventive Medicine.
