When Arkansans think of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, they think of assurance, peace of mind and someone who “has their back.” That’s exactly what the largest health insurer in the state has fought to gain over the nearly 70 years it’s been in business, and that’s exactly the kind of environment it’s built for the more than 2,700 employees who work for Arkansas Blue Cross and affiliated companies.
Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield teams with ArVets to recruit veterans, and with Goodwill and Salvation Army to aid in workforce readiness for the disabled, and with staffing firms to recruit various ages.
Current employees benefit from a flexible work schedule, free downtown Little Rock parking, massages, telecommuting and onsite shopping from major retailers and speciality shops with payroll deduction. Incentive bonuses are up for grabs for eligible employees, and Blue Cross provides assistance with continued education, certifications, workshops, conferences, licensure and more.
Employees covered by Blue Cross can take advantage of an onsite health clinic with a mere $5 deductible. Other wellness opportunities include Club Blue, a free onsite fitness center for employees. The Wellness Works Program offers cash incentives for wellness education and exercise and an annual fitness fair.
Arkansas Blue Cross goes hand-in-hand with charitable causes such as the American Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and AR Kids Read.
“Our employees are the first to raise their hands to volunteer, and then use their hands to pick up debris following a natural disaster,” said Richard Cooper, vice president of human resources. “They are the first to dig deep into their own pockets to contribute to a cause that will mean a child or a senior will have shelter or a healthy dinner tonight. They are the first to roll up their sleeves and donate blood so that an accident victim or a cancer patient will get a second chance.”
Arkansas Blue Cross employees are a community of people who live, work and play around our great state. It’s that feeling of community within the walls of the company that inspires employees to serve their neighbors side by side beyond the workday and workplace.
